Marvel’s 2012 Event Revealed : The Avengers vs. The X-Men

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Earlier at NYCC this year, Mike and I attended the Marvel Cup O’ Joe panel and saw this image on the screen:

Clearly, the Phoenix Force is making its comeback, but in what capacity, we hadn’t known since it was first revealed. Then, USA Today released this article today and all was revealed – Avengers vs. X-Men:

As you can see, the Marvel “architects” are set to write the entire 12-issue bi-weekly run, which goes into the following synopsis:

“Kicking off in a special “zero issue” prologue in March written by Bendis and Aaron, Avengers vs. X-Men begins the next month with an extinction-level event barreling its way toward Earth, namely the cosmic entity of death and rebirth known as the Phoenix Force. It’s looking for a new host who will possess all of its power, which may or may not be the mutant teenager Hope Summers.

Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto and the other X-Men want to protect her and prepare her if she’s to be the new Phoenix. Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man and their fellow Avengers want her handed over to them so they can figure out what to do with her and keep the world safe from a potentially fiery fate.

Suffice it to say, tensions — and fisticuffs — arise.”

You can’t help but think Civil War as you read this, although not on the political and human rights level that the Mark Millar series was diving into. But we’re obviously a ways off from knowing anything more. Stay tuned as the details reveal themselves.

The real question to ask – will Wolverine make a guest appearance?

Dragon Con 2011 – Day 1

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Comic Book Fury was in person for Dragon Con and Gary Cooke and I give you the full scoop of Day 1:

  • We first learn how to park a car in Atlanta
  • We then talk in great length about the DC Animated universe panel. No big announcements to come out of it, but it was great to have fans interact and talk about the greatness that was this awesome animated continuity that touched the comic fans’ hearts for 15 years.
  • Podcasting is not comic-related, but for those looking to get your own podcasting gigs going, this could provide you some insight.
  • Modern Mythmakers explores the cycle of the hero/heroine with Cable, Jean Grey, and Buffy as the focal points of the panelists’ discussions. I always have to tip my hat to professors and lecturers that use comic book material as subject matter for their books and thesis.
  • Because no one asked us to talk about it, we talked a bit about DCW wrestling and “Captain Obvious”.
  • And lastly, Gary gets “acquainted” with the Dragon Con staff and their handling of the lines for the Dr. Horrible live musical.

Days 2 and 3 are still to come. Stay tuned!
