DC’s summer event of 2011 is under way with Flashpoint #1. While it’s been getting mixed reviews on the web, I personally enjoyed the start of the alternate reality tale that Barry Allen has fallen in. The new takes on characters, gorgeous art by Andy Kubert, and the big last page reveal made it all worth the dozens of teaser images we’ve been seeing on DC’s blog. We still have a ways to go to see if Geoff Johns and company can convince us it’s worth the ride after the lackluster prelude arc in Flash, but it’s starting off on the right note.

You’d never thought I’d be into a Reed Richards story, but you can thank Hickman for the amazing work he’s doing in FF #3. All he had to do was have all of FF’s villains meet in the Baxter Building to find out how to defeat “Reed Richards” and it sold me.

The world imploded when there was actually a great Batman video game two years ago in Arkham Asylum. With its sequel coming out in October, it was predictable that DC would task Paul Dini (who also wrote the scripts for both games) to bridge the gaps between the games with Arkham City #1. What was not predictable was how solid the first issue was. Nothing spectacular that we haven’t seen before, but it fits well to guide us into the events that will occur this October.
