So many good books last week, but let’s be honest – when Scott Snyder has both American Vampire #13 and Detective Comics #875 coming out the same week, it makes it difficult to look at anything else.

In American Vampire, we see Pearl and Henry jump into World War II and a decision that Harry makes that could jeopardize both his relationship with the 2nd American Vampire, but also his life. It’s a great jumping-on point for new readers, but satisfies the current readers in terms of taking the saga of Skinner Sweet into new time periods.

In Detective Comics, there is an arc brewing between Commissioner Gordon and his son, James, that is an early contender for storyline of the year. We know his son is evil, but Snyder has built it up such that it’s not clear as to his motives or what led him to be this way. Snyder has a great feel for the Batman universe – he’s emphasized how much Gotham City can change people and the commissioner’s son is no different.
