I agree with you Mike, I thought the changed ending for the film actually worked better than the ending in the comic book. As much as I enjoyed it though, I think the movie failed to engage the non-fanboy. I think part of it that that the movie was a victim of the comic book's success. The CB revolutionized the way the comic book fan looks at Super Heroes. The problem is that in the almost quarter century to get it to the movie screen, the average non-comic book fan is used to dark cynical takes on the Super Hero movie genre, thanks in large part, to the enormous ripple this CB generated in the CB creative community in the years following, which spread to television and films. At this point, the OMG! WTF! that we all felt on reading years ago is lost on the non-fanboy, used to dark heroes and themes (X-Men, Nolan's Batman, emo Hulk movies *shudder*) I could go on about the problem of having heroes who the non-CB fan has never heard of who were themselves based on fairly obscure CB characters, but I'll slip into rant mode soon. Reader's Digest Version: Snyder made a great Comic Book movie for Comic Book fans, not so much for the general fan. Keep it up! What's next?
